Our subtle adversary frequently attempts to persuade believers that those who become too interested in Bible study soon lose their passion for souls.
While it is true that "doting about questions and strifes of words," or searching the Scriptures merely to find support for one's own beliefs, does indeed tend to dampen spiritual ardor, it is most untrue that humble, honest Bible study will lessen the believer's love for the lost.
Moreover, Bible study is an absolute necessity to the Christian worker who would win God's approval (2 Tim. 2:15). Let tradesmen, businessmen and those engaged in secular professions neglect to study, and they will do far less harm than will the soul winner who does not spend much time in the study of the Word.
Indeed, humble, prayerful Bible study is exactly what will awaken God's people to go out and win the lost to Christ and will keep them doing so intelligently and faithfully.
Don't ever think that Bible study dampens the believer's ardor or lessens his passion for souls and, believer friend, don't you ever let the Deceiver keep you from diligent, prayerful study of God's Word with this pious untruth. |
