Prayer is communication. God's communication to us is His written word, and our communication to God is prayer. The Holy Spirit indwells us to reveal God's word to us, and to intercede on our behalf in prayer
(1 Cor. 2:6-12 & Romans 8:26-28).
Romans 8:26
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray [proseuchomai (to pray to or toward)] for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [huper ( to meet with on behalf of one[only used here])] for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
1 Thessalonians 2:13 "For this reason we also thank [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)] God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe."
2 Corinthians 2:14-16 "Now thanks [charis (grace; favor)] be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death to death, and to the other the aroma of life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?"
Philippians 4:6-7
" Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer [proseuche (a prayer; pouring out)] and supplication[deesis (supplication; deprecation)], with thanksgiving [euchar (thanksgiving; thankfulness)], let your requests [aitema (request; petition)] be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-25 "Rejoice always, pray [proseuchomai (to pray for or wish for)] without ceasing, in everything give thanks [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)]; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not despise prophecies. Do not quench the Spirit. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. Brethren, pray[proseuchomai (to pray for or wish for)] for us."
Colossians 3:14-17
" But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body; and be thankful [eucharistos (thankful)]. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)] to God and the Father by him."
Philippians 1:3-11
" I thank [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)] my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer [deesis (beseeching; prayer; supplication)] of mine making request [deesis (beseeching; prayer; supplication)] for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace. for God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ. And this I pray [proseuchomai (to pray or wish for)], that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God."
Colossians 1:9-12
" For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray [proseuchomai (to pray or wish for)] for you, and to ask [aiteo (to ask)] that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may have a walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and long suffering with joy; giving thanks [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)] to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light."
1 Corinthians 1:4-8
" I thank [eucharisteo (to thank; be thankful)] my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ." Note: Because of the carnality in Corinth there was very little concerning the saints themselves to be thankful for.
sanctified by the word of God and prayer [enteuxis (intercession; prayer)]."
